Your program budget is just as important as any part of the grant. Make sure you spend ample time articulating your ask in numbers as you have described the program and needs assessment. There are a lot of great templates you can obtain to start working on a program budget. Remember that your program budget should also be reflected in the organizational budget. The budget is a framework that shows how you will allocate the money given to you by the organization, and it should reflect the stipulations set in place by the funder. Some things to consider as you work on a program budget:
Make a list of all the expenses.
Categorize the expense (administration, program, etc.)
Break down the expenses into smaller categories
Determine the cost of each expense: this should not be an estimate but an actual cost. It is a rule of thumb that your overhead cost percentage is not greater than the program cost.
Write a brief narrative for each expense and cost.
Consider your revenue and sources. Place those items in the budget as well.
